Frequently asked questions
Do my friends need the app to receive a payment request?
No. Friends only need to receive an SMS — they tap the link, choose how to pay (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or cash), and confirm. Only you need Splitsy.
How do I keep a tab open across multiple days?
From the Home screen, tap "Start a Tab" → Scan Receipt or Enter Manually. The tab persists on your Home screen until you split it. Add receipts to it whenever you want — works for one dinner, a weekend, or a 2-week trip.
Why didn't my friend's contact name show up?
iOS 18 introduced "Limited Contacts" access — by default, you only share a few contacts with each app. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Contacts → Splitsy, then choose "Full Access" or pick more contacts to share. Splitsy will see them next time you open the friend picker.
What does Splitsy Pro unlock?
Unlimited receipt scans and saved groups. Free users get one receipt scan per month; Pro removes the limit. Subscribe in the app — Settings → Splitsy Pro.
How do I cancel my Pro subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open iOS Settings → tap your Apple ID → Subscriptions → Splitsy Pro → Cancel. Any unused time remains until the end of your billing period.
The receipt scanner read items wrong. What do I do?
OCR isn't perfect — always review items on the Review Items screen before splitting. Tap any item name or price to edit it inline, or tap the × to remove it. You can also add items manually if anything was missed.
Can I split a tab with someone who isn't in my contacts?
Yes. On the friend picker, type their name and tap "+ Add as new friend" — it saves them with no phone number. You can add a phone later if you want to send them a payment SMS.
How do I delete my data?
To delete local data: Settings → Clear History (also deleting the app removes all locally-stored data). To delete server-side payment-request records, email privacy@getsplitsy.app with your request and we'll process it within 30 days.
I archived a tab by accident. Can I get it back?
Yes. Open the History tab — archived tabs appear there with a "Reactivate" button. Tap it and the tab returns to your Home screen with all items, friends, and progress intact.
Does Splitsy work on Android?
Not yet. We're focused on getting iOS right first. Android is on the roadmap.
