Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Splitsy mobile application ("App") operated by Five to Nine Labs ("we," "our," or "us"). By using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service Description

Splitsy is a bill-splitting utility that helps users divide costs among groups. The App calculates individual shares, generates payment request links, and maintains split history. Splitsy does not process, hold, or transfer money.

2. Accounts

You may use basic features without an account. Creating an account enables syncing across devices, saved friends/groups, and split history. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

3. Subscriptions

Free Tier

• Split bills with up to 3 people
• 1 free receipt scan
• Manual item entry
• Pay app deep links

Splitsy PRO ($2.99/month or $19.99/year)

• Unlimited receipt scanning
• Unlimited people per split
• Saved groups and spending insights
• Expense history export

Billing

• Subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings
• No refunds for partial billing periods; contact Apple for refund requests

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for illegal purposes
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Transmit harmful code or interfere with the App's operation
• Use the App to harass, defraud, or harm others
• Create false or misleading split requests

5. Payment Links and Third-Party Services

Splitsy generates shareable links and deep links to third-party payment services (Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, PayPal). We are not responsible for:

• The availability or operation of third-party payment services
• Any disputes arising from payments between users
• Transaction fees charged by third-party services
• The accuracy of payment amounts entered by users

6. Receipt Scanning

Receipt scanning uses optical character recognition (OCR) to extract items and prices. Results may not be 100% accurate. You are responsible for verifying scanned data before creating a split.

7. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, branding, and content, is owned by Five to Nine Labs and protected by copyright and trademark laws. "Splitsy" is a trademark of Five to Nine Labs.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FIVE TO NINE LABS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DISPUTES OVER SPLIT AMOUNTS BETWEEN USERS.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Five to Nine Labs from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the App at any time and delete your account by contacting support@getsplitsy.app.

12. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through the App. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict of law principles.
